    Chaban-Delmas Bridge

To connect the historic centre of Bordeaux on the left bank of the river with the business and residential neighbourhoods on the right bank without preventing cruise ships from reaching the Port de la Lune dock, the city opted to build a lift bridge.

The 433-metre structure has a 126-metre central span that lifts to a height of 53 metres in just 11 minutes to allow ships to enter. The bridge showcases VINCI Construction’s wide-ranging expertise in foundations, mechanical engineering, marine works and civil engineering.

An architectural feat, the Jacques Chaban-Delmas bridge is a fine example of modern technical know-how Its graceful shape can be seen as a continuation of the quays and fits in perfectly with its surroundings. The bridge is a very successful combination of technological prowess and aesthetics. It confers a very welcome modern touch to the city’s urban development.

Located between the Pont d’Aquitaine and the Pont de Pierre, this is the fifth bridge over the Garonne. 575 metres long and 77 metres high, it is the tallest lift bridge in France, and even in Europe!

When night falls, the bridge is illuminated and constitutes yet another beautiful facet of the Port of the Moon, to the delight of Bordelais and photographers. The blue colour of the pylons corresponds to high tide, whereas the green indicates low tide.

The bridge is not to be missed during your trip to Bordeaux. We suggest discovering it during a night-time walk along the quays. And please don’t hesitate to share your photos on social networks!
